"But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity. Amen"

2 Peter 3:18

Here at Saint Mark's, confirmation is more than a class, it is a ministry through which God is active in your life. It is a time to confirm or affirm the promises made to our young people by God in their Baptism.

Confirmation is a place where we learn about the promises God has made, why God has made them and how this impacts our lives today.

In order to understand this, we need to look deeply into the Bible to see how God has worked throughout history and how God still continues to work today. We will also learn about Martin Luther, his understanding of the Bible, and how Luther saw faith, active, in our daily lives.

Confirmation at Saint Mark's

Confirmation is designed for students in 7th, 8th and 9th grades.  Due to COVID-19 will be online this school year. Only 9th graders are expected to meet the pastor online weekly during the school year on Wednesday evenings at 7:00 p.m.

10th graders will meet irregularly during the months of September and October of their 10th grade year to prepare them for their actual confirmation.

Confirmation Students & Parents

Dear Confirmation Students and Parents,

Saint Mark’s Lutheran is excited to be able to offer confirmation for our students this coming school year. However, due to safety concerns around COVID-19, we can only offer online classes for now. We will re-evaluate the situation after the new year and make changes as necessary.

I am aware of how much time students spend online for school work. Below is a rough outline of what the online classes will look like for each confirmation class.

  • 6th Grade - 6th graders are now part of church school and will follow the church school curriculum. The Board of Education and I have agreed to keep 6th grade as part of church school moving forward. This means 6th graders will not begin confirmation until 7th grade.

  • 7th Grade - (Old Testament)

  • 8th Grade - (New Testament)

    • 7th & 8th grade confirmation will be online.

    • Each week, students will be sent a Bible story to read. After reading the Bible story, students are required to complete and submit a Google Form on the Bible story.

    • The Google Form will count towards their attendance and participation in confirmation.

  • 9th Grade - (New Testament)

    • At the beginning of each week, students will be sent a Bible story to read.

    • 9th graders will join Pastor Lue on Google Meet to go over the Bible story, clarify main points, and answer any questions.

    • The online sessions are expected to be around 25-30 minutes.

    • It is expected that students would have read the Bible story before the online sessions.

    • Online sessions will be Wednesdays at 6:00PM. The link will be sent prior to the online session.

  • Sermon Summary

Sermon summaries are still required for all confirmation students. However, we have decided to reduce the number of required sermon notes.

  • 7th Grade: 4 sermon notes + lent

  • 8th Grade: 4 sermon notes + lent

  • 9th Grade: 8 sermon notes + lent

  • For those who completed the required sermon notes from last school year, you will receive credit for this school year.
