Piano Accompanist

 

Position Purpose:

This position supports the worship music ministry for Saint Mark’s Lutheran Church, in consultation with the Pastor and Worship Committee in a way that is consistent with the mission, values, and vision of the church. Instruments include: baby grand piano and electric organ.

 

Position Classification:

This is a part-time, non-exempt position. Approximately 6 hours/week.

 

Position Responsibilities:

• Serve as pianist for:

  • Sunday worship service (currently held at 10:00 AM), including prelude, postlude, offertory, communion, and special music.

  • Church School on Wednesday evenings at 6:00 PM. Church School runs from September to April.

  • Other special worship services as scheduled, including Wednesdays during Lent, Holy Week, Christmas Eve, and other church festivals. This also includes being available for weddings and funerals, for which there will be additional compensation.

  • Assist with the annual children’s Christmas program and VBS.

  • Attend to and manage the sound equipment as needed, including rehearsing with soloists or musical ensembles, as needed.

• Attend the Worship Committee meetings and with the pastor to plan worship.

• Responsible for finding a substitute for Sundays absent.

 

Qualifications:

• Professional quality pianist, proficient in reading music and chord charts.

• Ability to perform in a wide range of styles including traditional hymns and contemporary music.

• Basic competence in Microsoft Office programs.

• Be able to communicate through email and other digital resources.

• Experience leading and managing with strong organization and communication skills.

 

Supervision of the position will be through the pastor and the congregational council.
